Manage the glossary¶
The glossary makes sure a term is translated the same way everywhere: on every page, in every model, on every site of your organization. Use it for product names, brand names and terms your editors always translate the same way.
You need the editor role or higher to change the glossary. Everyone in the organization can read it.
Add a term¶
In the dashboard, open Glossary and choose Add term.
Choose the source language and enter the term, for example “delta sync”.
Enter the translation for each target language you care about, for example
de: “Delta-Sync”,fr: “synchronisation différentielle”. Languages you leave empty have no rule for this term.Optional: check Case-sensitive if only this exact spelling counts, and add notes for your editors.
Save.
The target languages offered are the target languages of all sites in the organization.
Keep a name untranslated¶
For brand and product names, check Do not translate, for example for “Ponyglot” or “django CMS”. The term then stays unchanged in every language, and you don’t need to enter translations.
A term needs either at least one translation or Do not translate.
How terms are applied¶
The next translation jobs use the updated glossary automatically:
DeepL gets a glossary for each language pair it supports glossaries for.
The LLM gets the terms that occur in the text as instructions (whole words; case-sensitive terms only in their exact spelling).
After translation, the QA checks look at the result:
A do not translate term that doesn’t appear unchanged is an error. The translation is held back in the review queue.
A glossary translation that doesn’t appear is a warning. The draft is delivered and your editors see the warning. The check looks for the target term anywhere in the text, so inflected forms such as “Delta-Syncs” still count.
The glossary doesn’t change existing translations. To apply a new term to content that’s
already translated, retranslate the units in question with "force": true (see
Request translations).
Search, edit and delete¶
Use the search box on the Glossary page to find a term. Choose Edit to change or
delete it. The site page and GET /v1/status show the number of terms
(“glossary: 38 terms”).
